Iran Has No Plans to Close Embassy in Yemen: Deputy FM

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian dismissed as baseless some media reports about the closure of the country’s embassy in war-hit Yemen, saying that Tehran has no decision to close the embassy.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran’s ambassador was present in the Yemeni capital during all Saudi raids and heavy bombardments of Sana’a,” Amir Abdollahian told IRNA, stressing that Tehran has no plans to close its embassy in the Arab country.

He made the remarks in response to recent reports claiming that the Iranian ambassador and other embassy staff have fled the Yemeni capital following recent airstrikes by the Saudi-led coalition on Sana’a.

The Iranian ambassador is back in Iran for some medical examinations and will stay in the country only for a few days, Amir Abdollahian said.

“The Iranian embassy (in Yemen) will definitely continue its regular activities,” the senior Iranian diplomat underscored.

The remarks came as a coalition led by the Saudi regime continues its deadly attacks against Yemen’s defenseless people.

On March 26, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies, including the UAE, began to launch deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

More than 4500 people, many of them children and women, have been killed in the Saudi-led aggression against the Arab country so far.
