Iranian, Chinese FMs Meet in Beijing

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, held talks on a whole host of issues, including ways to deepen bilateral relations between the two Asian countries.

In the meeting held in the Chinese capital of Beijing on Tuesday, Zarif and Yi also exchanged views about the latest developments in the region and the world.

Upon his arrival on Monday, Zarif praised China for playing a major role in the nuclear negotiations between Tehran and six world powers and called on the Asian country to continue its role in the implementation of the recent nuclear agreement.

“China, as a very influential member of the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), played a significant role in the nuclear negotiations,” he said, adding that the country is needed to continue this role in implementing the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Heading a high-ranking delegation, Zarif arrived in Beijing at the invitation of the Chinese foreign minister.

This is his first visit to China after the conclusion of nuclear talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 on July 14 in the Austrian capital of Vienna.
