Good Ties with China High on Iran’s Agenda: MP

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Iranian lawmaker and member of Iran’s Expediency Council said that expansion of ties with China tops Tehran’s foreign policy agenda.

Speaking Sunday before leaving Tehran for Beijing at the head of an Expediency Council delegation, Gholam-Ali Haddad Adel announced the visit is aimed at holding talks on Tehran’s foreign policies and explaining the country’s general policies on ties with other countries, China in particular.

The Iranian Establishment’s policy is based on maintaining and reinforcing the country’s good ties with China, Haddad Adel reiterated, referring to the ties as “strategic”.

Chinese authorities are keen to know about the views of different sections of the Iranian establishment, Expediency Council in particular, on bilateral and international issues, and this is the reason for the visit, the Iranian lawmaker added.

He further noted that China attaches great significance to its ties with Iran after the recent conclusion of nuclear, saying that Beijing is seeking to have a role in Iran’s market after the deal.

Haddad Adel and other members of the high-ranking Expediency Council delegation left Tehran on Sunday night to start a week-long visit to China at the invitation of the Asian country’s government.

The visit comes against a backdrop of finalization of the text of a comprehensive nuclear deal between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), reached on July 14, will terminate all nuclear–related sanctions imposed on Tehran after coming into force.
