China’s Special Envoy to Visit Iran: Spokesman

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hong Lei announced on Monday that the country plans to send the head of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) as its special envoy to Iran.

Hong Lei told a daily news briefing today that Zhang Yi, the head of SASAC, will be in Iran from Monday to Wednesday, Reuters reported.

He did not elaborate on the reason for Zhang's visit.

According to Xinhua, Hong Lei also said Zhang will make the visit at the invitation of the Iranian government.

The Move by China comes after Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif made his first visit to China after the conclusion of nuclear talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 on July 14 in the Austrian capital of Vienna.

China's SASAC is a ministry-level body that directly oversees 112 central government industrial and service conglomerates.
