Iran’s Rezaei Says Russia’s Anti-ISIL Attacks in Syria Effective

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Secretary of Iran’s Expediency Council Mohsen Rezaei hailed Russian air strikes on the positions of ISIL terrorist group in Syria as an “effective factor” in the elimination of the extremists.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency on Saturday, Rezaei responded to a question about the recent Russian attacks on ISIL positions in Syria and said air raids are always effective, especially when they are combined with precision and information.

He further pointed to the coalition of Iran, Russia, Iraq and Syria against terrorism, and said the four countries are working together against the inauspicious phenomenon.

Asked about the future of the coalition, Rezaei emphasized that any action in any country should be taken in coordination with the leaders of that country, adding that if the coordination continues, it is a positive move.

Russia started bombing in Syria on Sept. 30, targeting the ISIL and other armed groups in the war-stricken country.

In the most recent development, a Russian defense ministry representative said on Saturday Russia had intensified its campaign in the last 24 hours, with 64 sorties hitting 55 targets.

The representative, Major-General Igor Konashenkov, described the targets hit as controlled by the ISIL.

He said they included command and control centers, weapons depots and training bases, located in the Syrian provinces of Raqqa, Hama, Damascus and Aleppo.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with Takfiri terrorists from various groups, including ISIL, currently controlling parts of it.
