Senior Hezbollah Official Hails Russia’s Military Action in Syria

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Lebanese Hezbollah Resistance Movement’s second-in-command, Sheikh Naim Qassem, welcomed Russia’s assistance to Syria in the fight against terrorism, and dismissed the notion that the military action would be tantamount to occupation.

Russia’s decision to provide military assistance for Syria in the fight against terrorism added a new “helper to the axis of resistance in the face of the American-Takfiri project”, Sheikh Qassem told Tasnim.

He also emphasized that such military intervention would not spell occupation because Russians took action at the official request of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

The Lebanese figure further hailed the coalition of Iran, Russia, Syria and Iraq in the fight against Takfiri terrorists, expressing Hezbollah’s optimism aboutoutcomes of such partnership.

Sheikh Qassem also noted that Hezbollah can play the role of an “assisting factor” in the coalition of the four countries.

Since late September, Russia has been carrying out bombings against the ISIL terrorist group in Syria, after Russia's parliament granted President Vladimir Putin authorization to deploy the country's air force abroad.

Reports suggest severe damages to the ISIL strongholds after Russia’s aerial attacks, something that lays bare the futility of a US-led military coalition against the militants in Syria after about a whole year.
