Hamas: Beersheba Operation Natural Response to Israeli Atrocities

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Palestinian Resistance Movement Hamas said Monday an operation by a Palestinian in the occupied city of Beersheba (Bi’r as-Sab) was a natural response to the Zionist regime’s continued atrocities against Palestinians.

In a statement on Monday, Hamas Spokesperson Husam Badran hailed the operation as a blessed action and said, “The successful operation of Beersheba was a natural response to the Zionist regime and settlers’ continued violence against Palestinians.”

He added that the Palestinian man who carried out the operation managed to disrupt the Zionist regime’s security system despite the fact that Israeli soldiers were all on high alert following the recent developments in al-Quds.

Badran stressed that the new Intifada (uprising) will continue to grow until its main objective which is liberation of Palestine from the occupation of the Zionists is achieved.

An Israeli soldier was killed and nearly a dozen others sustained serious injuries in an attack at a bus station in the city of Beersheba in occupied Palestine on Sunday evening.

An unidentified man, shot dead later, entered the place, stabbed a soldier, took his weapon and started firing at the crowd, injuring 11 people, including at least four other soldiers.

An Israeli bystander of Eritrean origin, not involved in the attack, was also killed by Israeli police who mistook him for a second gunman.

The latest wave of tensions was triggered by the Israeli regime’s imposition in August of restrictions on the entry of Palestinian worshipers into the al-Aqsa Mosque.

Earlier, senior Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh declared the ongoing unrest in the occupied territories and the West Bank to be an Intifada, as six Palestinians were shot dead by Israeli forces while protesting at a border fence in Gaza, further raising the stakes after a week of escalating violence.

In a sermon for Friday prayers at a mosque in Gaza City, Haniyeh said, “We are calling for the strengthening and increasing of the intifada. It is the only path that will lead to liberation. Gaza will fulfil its role in the Jerusalem intifada and it is more than ready for confrontation.”

At least 45 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces and around 1,000 injured with live and rubber-coated steel bullets in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip since Oct. 1, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said on Saturday.
