Iranian Official Highlights Significance of Civil Defense

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Prosecutor General Seyed Ebrahim Raeisi on Wednesday underlined the significance of Civil Defense given the numerous threats Iran is currently facing.

Iran, with all its capacities, is facing enemy threats in cultural, economic, and social areas as well as in military and economic fields, Raeisi said in a civil defense conference in Tehran.

“If we act passively in dealing with all these (possible) harms and threats, we would be faced with problems,” the Iranian judiciary official warned, referring to the Civil Defense Organization as one of the means to safeguard the country against such threats.

Several high-ranking Iranian defense and security officials as well as lawmakers on Wednesday attended the National Civil Defense Conference held in the Iranian capital’s IRIB Conference Hall.

In similar remarks last year, Iranian Armed Forces General Staff had placed great emphasis on the civil defense strategies in the country, saying these tactics can protect Iran against the sources of foreign threat.

Civil defense systems can block the implementation of “threatening scenarios and plots against the national security infrastructure” of the country, the Iranian Armed Forces General Staff stated in a statement on the occasion of the Day of Civil Defense last year.

In recent years, Iranian officials have attached a great deal of importance on civil defense tactics to counter a whole host of threats.
