Iran Wishes Closer Ties with Turkey after Election

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry on Monday felicitated "successful" parliamentary election in the northwestern neighboring country of Turkey.

The ministry’s outgoing spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham offered congratulations to the Turkish government and nation on huge participation of people at the election.

She expressed the hope that the bilateral relations between Tehran and Ankara would further expand after the establishment of a new government in Turkey.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's Justice and Development Party (AKP) won Sunday's vote by a landslide, taking 316 seats in the 550-member parliament to easily form a government on its own after it lost its majority in a June ballot.

There are hopes that the election would put an end to months of tension and instability in Turkey.
