Kremlin: Russian President to Meet Leader during Iran Visit


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Kremlin official announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin is planned to meet with Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei during a visit to Tehran on Monday.

“A conversation will be held with Supreme Leader of Iran (Ayatollah) Ali Khamenei," Yuri Ushakov, the Russian president's foreign policy aide, told reporters on Friday, Tass reported. 

He further said that the Russian president is also expected to sit down with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani.

"The parties will discuss all topical issues of bilateral cooperation - trade and investment cooperation, nuclear energy, oil and gas production, military and technical cooperation," the presidential aide said.

Putin will also attend the third summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in Tehran on Monday.

The Gas Exporting Countries Forum has 18 main and observer members and its permanent secretariat is located in Qatar’s capital city, Doha. Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, the United Arab Emirates, and Venezuela are the main members of the GECF. The forum’s observer members are Iraq, Kazakhstan, the Netherlands, Norway, Oman, and Peru.
