Iran, Turkmenistan Ink 9 MoUs


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – In a high-profile ceremony in Tehran on Sunday, senior officials from Iran and Turkmenistan signed nine Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in a range of fields to promote mutual cooperation.

The documents were signed in a ceremony attended by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, who has travelled to Tehran to attend the 3rd GECF (Gas Exporting Countries Forum) Summit.

Cabinet ministers and senior officials from the two neighboring countries signed the agreements.

The MoUs entail cooperation in the medical fields, post affairs, sport, construction of a power line between the Iranian city of Sarakhs and the Turkmen city of Merv, construction of a road linking the Turkmen cities of Ashgabat and Turkmenabat, road and civil construction, railroad transportation, standards developing, as well as radio and television activities.

Before the ceremony to sign the MoUs, President Rouhani and Berdimuhamedow discussed the expansion of economic ties between Tehran and Ashgabat at a meeting.

The two neighbors have unveiled plans to increase the value of bilateral trade to $60 billion in the next 10 years.
