Tehran's Warning about Spread of Terrorism Ignored by West: Speaker

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani on Monday said Western countries ignored Tehran’s warnings about the spread of terrorism for a long time.

“We have been warning Western countries since years ago about the emergence and spread of terrorism but they thought one can make instrumental use of them (terrorists),” he said in a meeting in Tehran with Lebanese Minister of Finance Ali Hasan Khalil.

They have just recently recognized that terrorism also targets Western countries and disrupts their domestic affairs, he added.

His comments came against the backdrop of a recent surge in terrorist attacks carried out by the Daesh (ISIL) Takfiri group in Western countries like France, Britain and the US.

The West and its regional allies have been blamed for supporting the terrorists operating in the region.

Larijani took a swipe at countries that support terrorist groups, urging them to stop fanning the flames of insecurity in the region.

The Iranian speaker also underlined that establishing peace in the region has always been the Islamic Republic of Iran’s strategy.

“We consider this (peace) to be in the interest of the Islamic Ummah (community) and have pursued this view on Syria, Lebanon, Bahrain, Yemen and other countries,” he went on to say.
