It’s Easy to Identify Terrorism Backers: Iran’s President

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called for concerted action to impair the financial capabilities of terrorist groups, noting that it’s not difficult to know who supports such groups financially or militarily.

“Unfortunately, certain countries are now supporting terrorist groups by providing facilities and arms. However, it is not difficult to identify the supporters of terrorist groups,” the Iranian president said in a meeting with President of the French Senate Gerard Larcher, held in Tehran on Sunday.

Rouhani referred to “oil and narcotics” as the two main sources of revenue for terrorists, stressing that all countries should join hands to limit and destroy the financial capabilities of terrorist groups.

“Iran, as a stable country in the region, and France, as a powerful country in Europe and the world, can cooperate and take good measures in the settlement of regional and international disputes,” the president further said.

Elsewhere, the Iranian chief executive described the finalization of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) –a lasting nuclear deal between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany)- as a beginning that gives impetus to the expansion of Tehran-Paris ties.

For his part, Larcher said there exist numerous grounds for economic cooperation between Iran and France, and hoped that President Rouhani’s upcoming trip to Paris would lead to signing of good deals and enhancement of bilateral cooperation.

The Iranian president is expected to make his planned visit to France on January 27.
