Ivory Coast President Accepts Resignation of Government

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Ivory Coast's president Alassane Ouattara accepted the resignation of his prime minister and government on Wednesday.

"The establishment of a new government will have better coherence as a goal so the government can be more efficient," Ouattara said in a meeting attended by the media, Reuters reported.

Alassane Quattara, a 73-year old economist, won a landslide victory over his closest rival Pascal Affi N’Guessan in the elections held on 25 October 2015.

President Quattara had said after his victory that the first peaceful presidential election since a 2011 civil war will allow his country to move on after years of turmoil.

More than 3,000 people were killed in a brief conflict sparked by ex-president Laurent Gbagbo's refusal to accept his defeat by Ouattara in the West African nation's last presidential poll in 2010.
