1 Killed, 2 Injured in Shooting Blocks from Chicago Mayor's Home

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - A party in an apartment four blocks from Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel's home turned deadly Friday evening when three people were shot - one fatally - during an argument, police said.

At about 7:30 pm, a 25-year-old man and a 23-year-old man attending a party in an apartment in the 1900 block of West Belle Plaine Avenue began to argue, according to Officer Hector Alfaro, a Chicago Police spokesman.

The 25-year-old man pulled out a gun and began shooting, hitting the 23-year-old man in the neck, Alfaro said. The shooter also hit another 25-year-old man in the abdomen. That man began to return fire, fatally shooting the first gunman in the chest. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The two surviving men both went to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition, The Chicago Tribune reported on Saturday.

A man who lives nearby said he heard a commotion and people yelling outside the building about 7:30. The man said he heard a man grunting and screaming.

He then saw a man stumble out of the east side of the building near the alley, blood covering his mouth, neck and torso. Another man followed him outside and told the blood-covered man to go back into the building.

A fire truck arrived on the scene soon after, and firefighters approached the building but then almost immediately ran back to their truck, the resident said.

Shannon Condon lives about a block south of the shooting scene and said she saw the shooting's aftermath.

Condon said she saw a female officer pointing her gun up at the east side of an apartment building where police later were concentrated their investigation. The officer told someone to drop their weapon.

Soon after, she saw police bring four to five people out of the apartment building in handcuffs.

Cops with rifles walked the area but crime scene tape outside the building was removed by about 8:30 pm.

Police stood outside the apartment building on the northeast corner of Damen and Belle Plaine avenues.

Three other people were killed and at least 14 others have been shot citywide since Friday morning.
