Saudi Embassy Attackers Being Arrested, Interrogated: Prosecutor

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Prosecutor General of Tehran Abbas Jafari Dowlatabadi said a process is still underway to identify, capture and interrogate suspects for a January 3 attack on Saudi Arabia’s embassy in Tehran.

Speaking at a judicial session on Sunday, Dowlatabadi said the attackers continue to be identified, arrested and interrogated.

On Saturday, Iran’s Police Chief Brigadier General Hossein Ashtari said that relevant judicial bodies are considering the case of those captured for storming the embassy.

In the early hours of January 3, angry demonstrators attacked Saudi Arabia’s embassy in Tehran in protest at Riyadh’s execution of prominent Shiite cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr.

Police arrested those identified as being involved in the attack and President Hassan Rouhani condemned the move afterwards.

However, Saudi officials decided to sever ties with Iran.
