Next US President Will Maintain Iran Nuclear Deal: White House

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough said he is confident whoever is elected in 2016 will preserve the nuclear deal between Tehran and six world powers.

“…I think what the next president is going to find when they come in here is that climate deal united the world for the first time on one of the major challenges we face. On the Iran deal, Iran now does not have a nuclear weapon and has no — if we get all these steps now in the next several weeks ironed, that they have to carry out to get to what we call implementation day… . So we feel really good about these deals, and we think the president’s going to come in here and pick them up where we leave them,” McDonough told This Week in a recent interview.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14 reached a conclusion on a 159-page nuclear agreement that would terminate all sanctions imposed on Tehran over its nuclear energy program after coming into force.

Afterwards, the 15-member United Nations Security Council passed a resolution that endorsed the deal also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Iran has repeatedly warned the US against any violation of the nuclear agreement, stressing that it will remain committed to the JCPOA as long as the other side does.
