IRGC Commander: Saudi Arabia Shielding Israeli Regime
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari underlined that Tel Aviv is utilizing the Al Saud regime as a stooge to carry out its plots against Iran and the Islamic Revolution.
“Today, the enemies have switched from direct (military) confrontation to proxy wars and utilizing the Muslim world’s capacities against the Islamic Revolution,” Major General Jafari said in a speech in Tehran on Tuesday.
A clear example of the fact is the recent moves taken by Saudi Arabia against Iran, he said, adding that Today, Al Saud is acting as a shield for the Zionists.
The IRGC commander further praised the vigilance of the Iranian nation against the enemies’ plots, saying that they are being thwarted one by one by the prudence of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution and the nation.
Tensions ran high between Iran and Saudi Arabia in recent weeks mainly due to Riyadh’s execution of prominent Shiite cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr, and a subsequent attack by outraged Iranian protesters on the Saudi embassy in Tehran, which resulted in the Arab country’s decision to sever its ties with the Islamic Republic.
On January 2, Saudi Arabia announced that it has executed Sheikh Nimr, among dozens of others. The execution ignited widespread international condemnation, from both political and religious figures.
The next day, furious demonstrators in the Iranian cities of Tehran and Mashhad stormed Saudi Arabia’s diplomatic buildings in protest at the execution of Sheikh Nimr.
Although Iranian officials criticized the embassy attack and police arrested dozens involved, Saudi Arabia cut off diplomatic relations with the Islamic Republic.
