Japan Expected to Remove Anti-Tehran Sanctions Friday: Report

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Japanese government is likely to lift its economic sanctions against Iran on Friday in the wake of the implementation of the nuclear deal finalized by Iran and six world powers in July 2015, known as the JCPOA.

According to a report carried by the Nikkei Asian Review on Tuesday, Tokyo will annul its sanctions against Tehran on Friday.

Earlier, Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga had said that Tokyo will swiftly remove all bans against Iran.

"Quick measures will be taken in accordance with the decisions of the UN Security Council,” he said on Monday.

According to reports, Tokyo is interested in restoring the rights for developing the Azadegan oil field, in Iran’s southwest, which is one of the largest in the world. Its oil reserves are estimated at 35-42 billion barrels.

The move will come after Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and European Union’s Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini late on Saturday, announced in a joint statement that the implementation of a nuclear deal finalized by Tehran and world powers back in July 2015 has officially been started.

The announcement was made after the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed Iran’s commitment to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
