Iraqi Envoy Lauds Iran’s Resistance to Sanctions

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iraq’s Ambassador to Tehran Rajih Sabir Aboudi al-Mousavi praised Iran for its heroic struggle against the sanctions imposed by the West.

Iran proved to be a great nation and could deal with the economic sanctions like a hero, the Iraqi envoy said at a meeting with an official at the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran.

His comments came a week after a landmark nuclear deal between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) took effect.

By coming into force, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) terminated all nuclear-related sanctions against Tehran.

Elsewhere in the meeting, the ambassador pointed to the economic relations between Iran and Iraq, pledging efforts to remove the obstacles in the way of trade ties between the two Muslim neighbors.

Mousavi also voiced Baghdad’s readiness to carry out the agreements that have been previously reached in Iran-Iraq High Joint Commission.

In February 2015, Iran’s First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri visited Baghdad, attended Iran-Iraq High Joint Commission, and signed several agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs).
