Iranian Parliament Appreciates IRGC Navy for Capturing US Sailors

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian lawmakers appreciated the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy forces who recently detained 10 US sailors in Persian Gulf after their intrusion into the country’s territorial waters.

In a ceremony during an open session of the parliament on Monday with IRGC Navy Commander Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi and a number of other commanders in attendance, the MPs hailed the IRGC forces for their move to detain the US marines.

During the ceremony, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani emphasized that the IRGC forces demonstrated the power and grandeur of the IRGC Navy with their “timely and calculated action”.

Rear Admiral Fadavi also delivered a speech at the session and briefed the parliamentarians about detention of the US sailors near Iran’s Farsi Island.

Earlier on Sunday, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei awarded the 'Medal of Fath (Conquest)' to the IRGC Navy commanders, including Rear Admiral Fadavi.

The IRGC officers on January 12 captured 10 US Navy sailors who had trespassed Iran’s territorial waters in the Persian Gulf.

One day later, the IRGC Public Relations in a statement said the sailors were freed following an apology from the US and after technical and operational investigations indicated that the intrusion into Iranian territorial waters was “unintentional”.
