JCPOA Good Model for Settling Disputes: Iran’s President

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani hailed a comprehensive nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers as a successful model that can inspire the international community to resolve conflicts through negotiation.

“The JCPOA, as a successful model, has created a very good atmosphere in the international arena for interaction and dialogue on other issues,” President Rouhani said in a meeting with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Tehran on Wednesday.

He was referring to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, the nuclear deal which was finalized by Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) in July 2015 and came into force last month.

The president also called for the use of a “win-win equation”, like the one applied in the JCPOA, in order to resolve conflicts in the Middle East.

Iran’s chief executive further stressed the need for taking the opportunities brought by the JCPOA and termination of the anti-Iran sanctions to strengthen ties between Tehran and Berlin.

Highlighting the necessity for the formulation of a long-term plan for Iran-Germany cooperation, President Rouhani said the two countries can develop relations in industry, mining sector, energy, railroad industry and tourism.

Rouhani also noted that Iran and Germany can join hands to establish peace and stability in the region and fight against terrorism.

Describing terrorism as a serious danger that threatens Europe, too, the Iranian president added, “The flow of financial and military sources to terrorists must be blocked.”

Steinmeier arrived in Tehran on Tuesday as the second trip to Iran in only three months.

His visit follows the implementation of the Iran nuclear deal on January 16.
