Iran, EU “High-Level Talks” to Start Monday: Deputy FM

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for European and American Affairs Majid Takht Ravanchi said an EU delegation is scheduled to arrive in Tehran on Monday to commence a fresh round of talks between Iran and Europe known as “High-Level Talks”.

“The European delegation headed by Ms. (Helga Maria) Schmid will arrive in Tehran and the high-level talks between Iran and the European Union will start (on Monday),” Takht Ravanchi told the Islamic Republic News Agency.

The two-day negotiations will be held at the level of deputies, the Iranian official said, adding that the delegations of both sides will include experts in different fields.

He noted that the talks are scheduled to be held once in every six months in Tehran and the Belgian capital of Brussels.

Different issues including bilateral Iran-EU ties in such fields as energy, trade, financial and banking cooperation, environment, and fight against illicit drug trafficking will be discussed during the talks, he said.

The two sides will also confer on regional issues, including the fight against terrorism and extremism, which are detrimental both to the region and the EU, Takht Ravanchi went on to say.

According to the Iranian diplomat, the ongoing crises in Iraq, Syria, Yemen, and other crisis-hit regions will also be explored in these talks.
