Iran’s FM Stresses Honoring JCPOA Commitments

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Logic dictates that parties to a lasting deal on Iran’s nuclear program, known as the JCPOA, honor their commitments under the agreement as the best mechanism for allaying concerns, Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said.

Speaking to reporters in Tehran on Monday, Zarif described the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as an agreement based upon the removal of concerns of all sides.

“Hence, it will be in everybody’s interest to honor (commitments in) the JCPOA,” he added.

Given the fact that it took thirty months of negotiations to strike the nuclear deal, wisdom dictates that the parties that tried all methods to put pressure on Iranians and gained nothing, should make the most of the outcome of the negotiations now that the talks have yielded results, Zarif stressed.

He also emphasized the need for Iran’s vigilance to make sure that certain parties which seek to create tension would not be able to throw a wrench in the implementation of the nuclear deal.

The JCPOA, a lasting deal between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) was finalized in July 2015. It came into force on January 16 and terminating all nuclear-related sanctions against Iran.
