Iran’s Support for Palestinian Resistance Matchless: Hamas Figure

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior political member of the Palestinian Resistance Movement, Hamas, praised Iran’s unwavering support for the movement, saying that no other country has provided such assistance for the anti-Israeli Resistance Front.

Speaking in a meeting with Chairman of the International Union of Resistance Clerics Sheikh Maher Hammoud in the Lebanese capital of Beirut, Mousa Mohammed Abu Marzook described the Tehran-Hamas relations as “significant and strategic” and called for Iran’s continued support for Palestine’s resistance against Israeli aggressions.

Up to now, no Islamic or Arab country has assisted the Palestinian Resistance as much as Iran, particularly since 2006 when the Islamic Republic threw its support behind the Palestinian government in the Gaza Strip, he said.

London-based newspaper Asharq al-Awsat, which is funded by the Saudi royal family, claimed on January 31 that Abu Marzook had criticized Iran regarding its proclamations of supporting Hamas, especially those on support being presented post 2009.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency a day after the report, Khalil Abu Leila, a senior Hamas leader, stressed that Tehran is still assisting the resistance, “for which Hamas is grateful.”

Abu Leila said those who publish such reports are the enemies of the Palestinian nation and resistance.

There is no doubt that reports about the words and sentences attributed to Abu Marzook are not correct, he said, stressing that Iran has always been a supporter of the resistance movement.

“We appreciate Iran for the support it has provided for the resistance,” the Palestinian leader stressed.
