Iran Nabs People Plotting to Disrupt Elections

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A number of individuals engaged in a plot to disrupt the upcoming elections in Iran have been arrested in the east of the country, a deputy interior minister said.

Speaking in a radio program on Tuesday, Deputy Interior Minister for Security Affairs Hossein Zolfaqari said the elements behind the plot were arrested by the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), in coordination with the Border Police, the Law Enforcement and the Intelligence Ministry.

The inmates have confessed to have been planning to take a series of actions to disrupt the elections, he added.

Iran is going to hold the Assembly of Experts and the parliamentary polls simultaneously on February 26.

Iran’s Police announced in January that it had established a special headquarters to provide security for the elections.
