Russia Keen to Sell SSJ 100 to Iran: UAC Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Vice-president of Russia's United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) said Tuesday the company seeks to sell up to 100 of its Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ 100) short-haul passenger aircraft to Iran.

"We have studied the potential market, as well as the needs of Iranian airlines as far as regional jets are concerned. According to various estimates, one can talk of up to 100 units there," Interfax quoted Vladislav Masalov as saying on the sidelines of the Singapore Airshow.

He gave no time frame or any further detail on possible sales of the planes to Iran.

UAC is the body that consolidated the assets of Russia's private and state-controlled civilian and military aircraft makers, including Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company.

There has been growing international interest in trade ties with Iran since Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14, 2015 finalized a comprehensive deal on Tehran’s nuclear program and implemented it on January 16.

The comprehensive nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), terminated all nuclear-related sanctions on Iran after coming into force.
