NATO Says Cooperation with Iran Likely

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – NATO Special Representative for the Caucasus James Appathurai did not rule out the possibility for the military alliance to establish relations with Iran following the implementation of the JCPOA and the removal of anti-Tehran sanctions.

"We have received no indication from Iran, there are no discussions within NATO about establishing relations," Appathurai said, as quoted by Azerbaijan's Trend News Agency.

"I don't exclude that it might happen at some point in the future," he added, however.

The JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action), a lasting deal between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) was finalized in July 2015. It came into force on January 16 and terminating all nuclear-related sanctions against Iran.
