US Treasury Mission Due in Germany to Resolve Iran’s Banking Problems

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A US Treasury delegation plans to pay an official visit to Germany in coming days to help resolve the remaining problems in banking ties between Tehran and Berlin after the removal of anti-Iran sanctions, Iranian Ambassador to Berlin Ali Majedi announced.

“We are witnessing the German side’s seriousness to resolve these problems,” Majedi told reporters in response to a question about reasons behind the banking and insurance problems facing Germany’s economic transactions with Iran.

Accordingly, a high-ranking delegation from the US Treasury Department is scheduled to make a trip to Germany in coming days to make different interpretations of removal of anti-Iran sanctions closer together, the diplomat added.

Speaking in an earlier meeting with economic activists from Germany and Iran, Majedi said that “the banking problems in the economic relations between Iran and Germany is being resolved.”

The remarks come against the backdrop of a new wave of interest in ties with Iran after Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14, 2015 reached a conclusion over the text of a comprehensive 159-page deal on Tehran's nuclear program and started implementing it on January 16.

The comprehensive nuclear agreement terminated all nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran after coming into force.

Earlier in July 2015, German Vice-Chancellor and Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Sigmar Gabriel visited Iran at the head of a high-ranking trade delegation, including the representatives of 20 German economic giants, and held meetings with senior Iranian officials to develop economic cooperation between the two countries.
