Yemeni Forces Pound Saudi Military Bases in Jizan

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Yemen’s army backed by the country’s popular committees mounted retaliatory operations against Saudi military bases in the kingdom’s southwestern border region of Jizan, media reports said on Sunday.

According to the Arabic-language Al-Ahed news website, the army and the popular committees of Yemen bombarded positions held by the Saudi aggressors, firing Katyusha missiles at several military bases in Jizan.

They also managed to recapture areas near Bait Wafi in Taiz Governorate and inflict heavy losses on the Saudi forces.

A Yemeni source said a large number of Saudi forces have been killed in the cleanup operations by the Yemeni forces in the areas.

It came after Saudi-led air strikes on a market near the Yemeni capital, Sana’a, killed at least 45 people on Saturday.

The raids mainly resulted in the death of civilians, according to security officials.

The strikes hit the Nehm district, northeast of Sana’a. “Several Saudi-led airstrikes directly struck people gathered in a crowded market in Nehm district of Sana’a province and killed about 45 civilians while 50 others were injured at the scene,” said one resident.

Yemen’s defenseless people have been under massive attacks by a coalition led by the Saudi regime for nearly a year but Riyadh has reached none of its objectives in Yemen so far.

Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been launching deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

More than 8000 Yemenis, including many women and children, have died in the Saudi-led aggression so far.
