Lavrov, Kerry Conferred on Ways to Ensure Syrian Ceasefire

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US State Secretary John Kerry discussed in a phone call on Thursday the steps to resolve the Syrian conflict and efforts to ensure the cessation of hostilities in the war-torn country, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

In February, Russia and the United States reached an agreement on the cessation of hostilities in Syria.

The ceasefire took effect on February 27. The agreement does not apply to groups operating in Syria that are designated as terrorist organizations by the United Nations, including Daesh and al-Nusra Front.

"The sides stressed the need to continue strengthening coordination of Russia-US military efforts aimed at assisting the implementation of the ceasefire regime in Syria and ensuring access of humanitarian aid to population of besieged areas," the ministry said in a statement, Sputnik reported.
