Iran’s Velayati Optimistic about Victory of Syrian Nation, Government

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Head of the Strategic Research Center of Iran’s Expediency Council Ali Akbar Velayati praised the resistance of the Syrian people and government against foreign-backed militancy in the Arab country, saying that the Syrian nation will be victorious in this battle.

“Syria has gone through tough times and of course glorious and memorable days,” Velayati said in a meeting with a number of Syrian clerics in Tehran on Saturday.

“God willing, the great nation and government of Syria will emerge victorious (in the ongoing fight against foreign-backed terrorism),” he added.

Velayati further pledged Iran’s unwavering support for the anti-Israeli Resistance Front, saying the Islamic Republic has sided and will side with the Syrian nation and use all its capacities to restore security and stability to the Middle East region.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.

According to a new report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.

In the meantime, Iran has remained a close ally of Syria and supports its legitimate government in the face of foreign-backed militancy.
