Iran’s Parliament Speaker Condemns Terrorist Blasts in Brussels

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani censured the terrorist attacks in the Belgian capital of Brussels that killed over 30 people and injured more than 200 others.

In a message to Siegfried Bracke, the president of the Belgian Chamber of Representatives, Larijani condemned the attacks and expressed condolences to the Belgian parliament, government and nation and the bereaved families of the victims.

“The recent terrorist incidents once again demonstrated that terrorism is a common threat to the security, peace and progress of all nations across the world and that fighting it requires the world community’s concerted and integrated action against this ominous phenomenon and those who support it financially, politically and intelligence-wise,” he said in the message.

Larijani also underlined that it has always been the principled policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, as a victim of terrorism, to fight against the phenomenon and that the country will support any sincere and principled effort on this path.

Early on Tuesday, three coordinated nail bombings rocked EU’s de facto capital, Brussels, leaving at least 34 people dead.

Two of the explosions ripped through the international departure hall of the airport in Zaventem, near the American Airlines check-in desk and another near a coffee shop.

An hour after the airport bombings, another bomb went off at Maelbeek metro station, 10 kilometers away.

Belgium has declared three days of mourning over the carnage. A minute of silence was also observed for the victims on Wednesday.

The attacks have prompted intensified security measures elsewhere across Europe.
