Iranian Official Urges Deadline for West on JCPOA Commitments

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian official called for submitting regular reports to the UN on the West’s lack of commitment to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and setting a deadline for the West to fully implement the nuclear deal or else expect it to be declared null and void.

In an interview with the Tasnim News Agency, Chief of the Iranian Judiciary’s Human Rights Council Mohammad Javad Larijani said it is unlikely that Westerners will accuse Iran of violating the JCPOA in the near future, because in that case, they will have to annul the deal themselves.

The West has plans to force Iran to give up the JCPOA as a deal, so that Western media could launch a concerted propaganda campaign against Iran alleging that it is not trustworthy anymore because of its violation of the nuclear deal, he explained.

Larijani then highlighted the options that Iran can go for to counteract the Western plots.

He said Tehran needs to file “daily and even hourly” reports to the United Nations secretary general about the West’s lack of commitment to the JCPOA.

Moreover, he added, Iran should set a deadline of for example three months for the US and European governments to honor their commitment to the deal, otherwise the JCPOA will be deemed a nullified document.

Larijani also emphasized the necessity for an uninterrupted progress in Iran’s nuclear industry under a comprehensive 20-year plan.

While the JCPOA, a 159-page nuclear agreement between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) came into force in January, some Iranian officials complain about the US failure to fully implement the accord.

Last month, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said Americans have yet to fulfill what they were supposed to do as per the nuclear deal.

Iran still has problems in its banking transactions or in restoring its frozen assets, because Western countries and those involved in such processes are afraid of Americans, Imam Khamenei said, criticizing the US for its moves to prevent Iran from taking advantage of the sanctions removal.
