Talks for Iraqi KRG’s Export of Oil via Iran Underway

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An official with Iraq's Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) said negotiations are underway between Iran and Kurdistan for a potential agreement whereby the semi-autonomous region would export its oil through Iran.

“A delegation from the KRG Ministry of Natural Resources met with Iran’s Ministry of Oil for talks on exporting Kurdistan’s oil through Iran,” Abdullah Akreyi, the head of Iran-KRG relations in Kurdistan’s Department of Foreign Affairs, said on Tuesday as cited by the Kurdish Rudaw news website.

“There is a month left for final agreement between the two sides,” he added.

Akreyi further said that Tabriz and Kermanshah are expected to be the two Iranian cities through which Kurdistan’s oil will be carried.

“Talks about exporting Kurdistan’s oil through Tabriz and Kermanshah provinces are progressing and in the final stage with only one month left for both sides to sign the agreement."

Akreyi went on to add that a meeting for finalizing the deal is expected to be held soon in the Iraqi Kurdish capital Erbil.
