Asian World Cup Qualifying Draw: Iran, South Korea in Group A


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran has been drawn in Group A of the 2018 World Cup qualifying alongside South Korea, Uzbekistan, Qatar, China and Syria.

Group B consists of Australia, Japan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq and Thailand.

The top two from each pool will qualify for Russia 2018, with the two third-placed sides facing off to see who will advance to a two-legged inter-confederation playoff with a CONCACAF qualifier for another spot in Russia.

The round robin matches will start on Sept. 1.

Iran will begin the competiton with Qatar in Tehran.
