Iran’s Zobahan Fails to Advance to AFC Champions League Quarters
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Zobahan from Iran suffered a 2-0 home loss to the UAE’s Al Ain in the second leg of the AFC Champions League Round of 16 on Wednesday.
Zobahan had tied 1-1 with Al Ain last week and a goalless draw could send the team to the quarter-finals.
Lee Myung-joo and Danilo Asprilla scored a goal in each half to take the 2003 champion into the draw for the quarter-finals for the second time in three seasons as it stays on track to reach the final for the first time since 2005.
Myung-joo opened the scoring for the Emirati football team in the 12th minute in Isfahan’s Foolad Shahr Stadium.
Asprilla extended the visiting team’s lead in the 61st minute.
