Iranian FM Applauds Liberation of Iraq’s Fallujah
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in a message to his Iraqi counterpart congratulated the neighboring country’s government and nation on the recapture of the city of Fallujah from Takfiri terrorists.
In a Saturday message to Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari, Zarif praised the Iraqi army and voluntary forces for their “courageous fight and victory” against the Takfiri terrorists, and congratulated Iraq’s government, nation and religious authorities on the epic victory.
He also noted that achievement of this triumph in the Muslim holy month of Ramadan is a sign of divine assistance.
Zarif further expressed the hope that national unity and integrity as well as employment of national capacities would help the Iraqi nation to achieve greater victories against the Takfiri terrorists and their supporters across the “united, integrated and glorious Iraq.”
On Friday night, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi announced that the western city of Fallujah has been liberated from control of Daesh.
"Fallujah has returned to the homeland. Our troops are in control of the city and have tightened their grip on its center," Abadi said in a televised address.
Fallujah, around 50 kilometers west of capital Baghdad, was the first Iraqi city to fall to Daesh in early 2014.
