Syrian Troops to Open Two New Fronts in Aleppo: Expert
DAMASCUS (Tasnim) – A Syrian military expert said Syrian forces will fight against Takfiri terrorists on two new fronts in Aleppo following the completion of the northern city’s siege by the army.
Clashes in the flashpoint city of Aleppo are expected to continue in two new fronts in the coming days, the military specialist told Tasnim.
Syrian troops tightened their siege of eastern neighborhoods of Aleppo on Sunday after bombing the militants’ fighting positions near Palestinian Handarat refugee camp in the city.
The expert added that the first front will be Handarat refugee camp, which has been encircled by the Syrian forces from three directions.
The Western town of Jamiat al-Zahra and northern district of Alirmoon will form the second new front line of the army’s operation, he stated.
The two new fronts will help restore security to Aleppo International Airport, the expert said, adding the airport will reopen and resume its military and civilian flights soon.
Aleppo has been divided between government forces in the west and militants in the east since 2012, a year after the conflict broke out in Syria.
During the past days, a number of the militants have laid down their weapons in Aleppo and surrendered themselves to government troops, who are increasingly making more gains in the embattled province.
