Muslim Students Launch Petition against Saudi Crimes in Yemen

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Union of Islamic Students Associations in Europe have launched a petition addressed to United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, calling for action against Saudi Arabia’s massacre of people, mostly women and children, in Yemen.

In the letter to the UN secretary-general, the Muslim students denounced heinous crimes committed by the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen, calling for an end to the killing of civilians in the Arabian Peninsula country.

“This invasion has led to the massacre of dozens of civilians, including children and women. These people are savagely targeted by bullets and missiles, while they have played no role in Yemen’s domestic conflicts,” the petition reads.

“More regrettably, organizations  that advocate human  rights  have  kept  silent  about  these massacres and there is no adequate coverage of this invasion by international media,” it says.

The petition titled “We Stand by Yemen: YOUR SIGNATURE MAY SAVE INNOCENT LIVES” has been released here.

It came nearly two months after Ban Ki-moon removed Saudi Arabia from the UN annual blacklist after being added over its crimes in Yemen. Riyadh had threatened to cut off funding the world body.

More than 9,400 people have been killed in Yemen and at least 16,000 others injured since March 2015, when Saudi Arabia launched a military campaign against the Arab country.

The Saudi-led coalition includes United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Senegal and Sudan.
