Saudi Arabia Seizes 4 Iranian Fishing Boats in Border Waters

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Saudi Arabia’s coast guard has seized four Iranian fishing boats in waters between the two countries in the Persian Gulf, an Iranian Police commander announced.

Commander of Iran’s Coast Guard Police in the southern province of Bushehr, Colonel Amin Khosravi, told reporters on Saturday that the Iranian vessels seized by Saudi forces include three fishing boats and a launch, which had a 5-day permission for fishing in the provincial waters.

There is no information about the fate of the Iranian boats’ crew, the commander said, adding that the Foreign Ministry ought to address the issue.

Colonel Khosravi said all Iranian vessels are given prior warnings before sailing into border waters for fishing.

However, he added, such warnings go unheeded by some fishermen, who enter the territorial waters of other countries and face arrest.

The Iranian province of Bushehr has some 500 km of coast by the Persian Gulf. Direct distance between the Iranian province and Saudi Arabia is around 200 km.
