Turkish PM Urges Unified Approach to Settlement of Syria Crisis

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said countries like Iran, Russia, and the US can help resolve the ongoing Syrian crisis through concerted action.

Iran, Russia, the US, and Persian Gulf Arab states are capable of settling the crisis in Syria despite all differences, Yildirim told foreign reporters on Saturday as cited by Reuters.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Yildirim said his country is willing to accept a role for Syrian President Bashar Assad during a transitional period in Syria.

On Syria’s future, Yildirim said Turkey would not allow the country to be ethnically divided and favored a system in which all ethnic groups are represented.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.

Meanwhile, Russia’s aerial support for the Syrian forces since September 2015 has given fresh impetus to the fight against the foreign-backed terrorists.

Iran has also remained a close ally of Syria and supports its legitimate government in the face of militancy.
