Afghan City's Communications Cut Off amid Fears of Collapse to Taliban

KABUL (Tasnim) – All communications of Afghanistan’s eastern city of Omni in Paktia Province with the central government have been cut off following severe clashes between the Afghan army troops and Taliban militants in the district.

According to Tasnim dispatches, severe clashes erupted between government forces and the armed insurgents in Omni on Friday.

Nematollah Babri, a member of the Paktia Provincial Council confirmed the clashes, saying that due to lack of communication with the office if the city’s governor, it is not clear whether the city has fallen into the hands of Taliban militants or not.

This is while, a member of the Afghan parliament from Paktia has announced that the city has collapsed.

Afghan government forces have launched operations against the Taliban in 18 provinces of Afghanistan as fighting has intensified since the start of the militants' spring offensive in April.

A few days ago, the Janikhel district in Afghanistan’s eastern province of Paktia also fell into the hands of the Taliban.
