Azerbaijan to Extradite 22 Iranian Convicts: Diplomat


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular, Parliamentary and Expatriates' Affairs Hassan Qashqavi announced that 22 Iranian prisoners will be extradited from neighboring Azerbaijan later on Monday.

On the occasion of the Eid al-Adha, which falls on September 12, 22 Iranian nationals serving prison terms in Azerbaijan will be transferred to their homeland, Qashqavi said.

Based on follow-up measures taken by the Iranian Embassy in Baku and the Foreign Ministry, the Iranian poisoners will be extradited to the country, the diplomat noted.

He added that the extradition is carried out under a previous agreement between Tehran and Baku on the exchange of prisoners.

In recent years, Iran and Azerbaijan have extradited a number of prisoners on several occasions as a sign of close diplomatic relations between the two neighboring countries.
