President Rouhani: Italy Can Become Iran’s Main Trade Partner in Europe

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Italy can once again become Iran’s main trade partner in Europe following the removal of anti-Tehran sanctions.

Italy has the opportunity in the post-JCPOA (Iran's nuclear deal also known as Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) era to become Iran’s main trade partner in Europe one more time, Rouhani said on Tuesday in a meeting with Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi on the sidelines of the 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

“Recent bilateral trips are a turning point in relations and a sign of determination of the two nations and governments to bolster cooperation,” he added.

Renzi, for his part, expressed Rome's willingness to bolster its all-out ties with Tehran, saying, “We are ready to take any measure in line with strengthening economic ties (with Iran)”.

Heading a high-ranking politico-economic delegation, Rouhani is in the US city of New York in a bid to attend UN General Assembly session.

He is scheduled to deliver a speech at the General Assembly session on September 21.
