American Muslims Express Solidarity with Indigenous People (+ Photos)
WASHINGTON, DC (Tasnim) – Indigenous people from across America have issued a rallying cry in defense of the earth at the Sacred Stone Camp in North Dakota, and many faith traditions, including American Muslim, are responding their call.
According to Tasnim dispatches, members of nearly 300 different Native American tribes have gathered at the Sacred Stone Camp in recent weeks to protest the Dakota Access oil pipeline.
Several Christian and Jewish groups demonstrated their solidarity with this movement.
On Sunday, American Muslims also joined them and showed their solidarity with the indigenous people, who say the $3.8 billion project would snake across their sacred lands and burial sites, and could pose a threat to the water supply that serves the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation, which lies just south of the pipeline’s proposed route.
