Iranian, Japanese Diplomats Hold Talks in Tokyo


TOKYO (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Japan’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs Kentaro Sonoura at a meeting in Tokyo discussed a range of issues, from closer economic ties to joint action against narcotics trafficking and terrorism.

According to Tasnim dispatches, in the gathering, held at the Iranian ambassador’s residence in Tokyo on Wednesday, Zarif and Sonoura stressed the need for expansion of political, economic and parliamentary ties between Iran and Japan.

They also explored avenues for settlement of regional crises through peaceful and political approaches, mutual cooperation in the war on drugs, and more investment in Afghanistan to ensure stability and tackle terrorism.

Heading a mainly trade delegation, Zarif arrived in Japan early Wednesday, after visiting India and China.

In comments upon his arrival in Tokyo, the top Iranian diplomat stated that economic issues are high on the agenda of his trip.
