Iran Offers Condolences to Indonesia over Deadly Quake


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani extended condolences to the Indonesian nation and government over a devastating earthquake that killed and displaced thousands of people.

In a message to his Indonesian counterpart Joko Widodo on Sunday, the Iranian chief executive voiced condolences to the Southeast Asian country’s president and people.

He added that the Islamic Republic is prepared to send assistance and relief aid to Indonesia’s quake-hit regions.

Rouhani further wished swift recovery for the injured, and patience for the bereaved families.

More than 45,000 people have been left homeless in the Indonesian province of Aceh by this week's magnitude-6.5 earthquake, according to authorities.

The death toll stands at 102 while more than 750 people were injured. Authorities put the number of people who have been displaced to over 45,000.
