Iranian Speaker: Iraq’s Mosul to Be Liberated from Terrorists Soon

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani hailed the liberation of Syria’s northern city of Aleppo from foreign-backed terrorists and expressed confidence that Iraq’s Mosul will also be freed from the Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terror group in the near future.

Speaking at an open session of the parliament on Wednesday, Larijani pointed to the recent achievements of the Syrian army and allied forces in the campaign against terrorists despite US support for them, saying that the US policies in the region are at a dead end.

The recent gains of the “brave” fighters in Syria forced terrorists to withdraw from the region, leading to liberation of Aleppo, he said, adding that, God willing, Iraq’s Mosul will also be liberated soon.

Larijani further pointed to the victories of the Iraqi and Yemeni people over terrorists and said the Iranian parliament congratulates the Syrian, Yemeni, and Iraqi nations on their achievements.

The battle of Aleppo ended on Tuesday, as rebels and the Syrian government agreed to a ceasefire that would ensure opposition fighters' exit from the city.

After more than four years of clashes and months of siege, the fight for Syria's once largest city came to an end in what UN Secretary-General Ban ki-Moon called "a total uncompromising military victory" by government forces.

Russia’s envoy to the United Nations said on Tuesday that a deal for rebel fighters to leave their last pocket of territory in the embattled Syrian city of Aleppo did not apply to civilians.

In Iraq, the army and popular forces on October 17 launched a massive operation to recapture Mosul, the largest city still under the control of Daesh.
