High Turnout in Friday Rallies Crushing Response to Trump: Iranian Vice-Speaker

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The vice-speaker of Iran’s parliament praised the people’s massive presence in Friday rallies marking the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, saying it was “a powerful punch on the mouth of those talking nonsense”, US President Donald Trump in particular.

Speaking at an open session of the parliament on Sunday, Massoud Pezeshkian expressed his gratitude to the Iranian people for their huge participation in the demonstrations held on Friday and described the presence as “epical”.

“The epic presence of the people in the rallies was a powerful punch on the mouth of those talking nonsense, especially the US president, who, as the Leader of the Islamic Revolution put it, has revealed the true face of the US,” he said.

The parliamentarian pointed to recent warmongering rhetoric by US officials, including Trump, and said the high turnout in the rallies demonstrated that such nonsensical talks cannot shake the resolve of the “great nation of Iran”.

Iranians took to the streets on Friday for nationwide rallies marking the 38th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution.

This year’s rallies showed more anti-US sentiments given Trump’s outspoken criticism of Iran and his executive order on January 27 banning nationals temporarily from seven Muslim-majority nations, including Iran, from entering the US.

People in capital Tehran, more than 1,000 other cities and towns, and 4,000 villages attended the rallies with flags of Iran and banners in support of the Islamic Republic.

In the capital, enthusiastic demonstrators marched across 10 main routes to reach the Azadi (liberty) Square to cherish the memory of the Islamic Revolution victory.
